HUFFINE CHUNG LLP is a Southern California boutique law firm founded by veteran business attorneys Dustin A. Huffine and Melvin L. Chung. Mr. Huffine and Mr. Chung serve in both advisory and advocacy roles for their clients, which include entrepreneurs, startups and established businesses in a range of industries including apparel, manufacturing, real estate, construction, import/export, and technology. As a boutique practice, the firm is positioned for clients who seek a high level of discretion and personalized attention from legal counsel.
Dustin A. Huffine
After practicing law in his hometown of Nashville after graduating from law school, Mr. Huffine moved to Los Angeles in 2003 to serve as general counsel of a publicly traded fashion apparel company. After leaving that position in 2009 to join a startup apparel company and serve as its president until the company’s sale in 2013, Mr. Huffine co-founded Huffine Chung, with Melvin Chung in 2014 with an emphasis of servicing the legal needs of entrepreneurs and businesses within the apparel and manufacturing industries of Los Angeles. Since that time, while maintaining a strong connection to, and continuing to serve, a large number of apparel industry clients, the practice has expanded its client base to include representation in transactional and commercial litigation matters for other businesses in a range of areas including corporate and partnership disputes, employment law, judgment enforcement, real property and also acting as outside general counsel to several of its clients. In addition to a strong background in all corporate matters, Mr. Huffine routinely handles litigation matters in state and federal courts for his clients. Mr. Huffine is a graduate of the University of Tennessee College of Law (J.D., 1999) and Vanderbilt University (B.A., 1996) and is licensed to practice law in California and Tennessee. Additionally, Mr. Huffine is admitted to practice in the federal courts of the Central District of California, the District of Arizona, and the Western District of Tennessee.
Melvin L. Chung
Mr. Chung was admitted to the California Bar in 1997. He practiced as an associate for three years at a leading international trade law firm in Los Angeles before starting his own firm. Mr. Chung represents clients in corporate matters, international trade, transportation, real estate, intellectual property, and commercial litigation. He has served as lead counsel and second chair in successful court trials and arbitration hearings involving business torts, commercial transactions, corporate governance disputes, payments and collections, and intellectual property disputes. Mr. Chung is an expert in import-export matters, Customs entry and clearance, tariff classification, ocean carrier and non-vessel operating carrier practices, cargo claims and freight disputes, and inland trucking and warehousing disputes. More recently, in the aftermath of the 2020 pandemic’s effect on the global supply chain, much of his practice has focused on advising U.S. importers in Section 301 Tariff disputes, CBP Protests, duty refund claims, and disputes with vessels and container lines over demurrage and detention fees recently outlawed by the Federal Maritime Commission. Mr. Chung represents a diverse range of clients from multinational corporations to start-up businesses involved in import-export, transportation, off-shore manufacturing and supply chains, intellectual property matters, and commercial real estate related to Customs bonded facilities, 3PL and trucking-warehousing operations. Mr. Chung is a graduate of Loyola Law School (J.D., 1996), Cornell-Paris 1 Summer Institute of International and Comparative Law (Certificate, 1995), and the University of California, Los Angeles (B.A., 1992).
